Outdoor Education

As a major cornerstone of The Peak School experience, the Outdoor Education (OE) department offers many opportunities to engage students in appreciation and enjoyment of the natural world. Through a wide variety of recreational activities, environmental education opportunities, and skill-based courses, students focus on intra- and inter-personal skills and leadership, as well as stewardship for our natural resources. Quarter-long OE elective course offerings include Outdoor Leadership, Avalanche Safety, Wilderness First Aid and Field Ecology.

Some of the highlights of our Outdoor Education program include:

  • Orientation Camping Trip for grades 9-11
  • Rock Climbing at the Breckenridge Recreation Center
  • Mountain Day! — A Peak tradition wherein classes are cancelled for an all-school hike
  • Winter Recreation Day
  • Wilderness Medicine Courses
  • Hut Trips within the 10th Mountain Division system
  • A 7-day leadership and adventure trip
